Greek-American Coach leads team to world record
Assistant Morraine Valley Cross Country Coach Dimitri Dimizas, a member at St. Nicholas Church in Oak Lawn, IL, along with Joe Lerner, assistant cross country coach at Trinity Christian College, coached runners in the record-breaking 100x10k relay.
Dimizas, a former Cyclone himself, along with Lerner, led 100 runners from Morraine Valley Community College and other area schools. The race, which began on June 25, 2015, culminated on June 28, shattering the previous record by about 8 hours. The coaches, who are good friends, planned the race over the last year. In an article on Morraine Valley’s website, Dimizas called it “surreal,” and said that he didn’t expect that they would actually beat the Guinness World Record.
A story made the Chicago Tribune website as well.
