Ignite Fitness Cares, Gives Back

New business, thrives, cares, and goes above and beyond.

The Ignite Fitness Story

On October 5, 2014, Nicholas Karavolos, opened the doors at Ignite Fitness. The Elmhurst, IL native has been a fitness professional for more than eight years. Nick has always been interested in athletics, health and fitness.  He was Division 1 Track Athlete (Decathlon) while pursuing his undergraduate studies at UIC. He is certified by the National Association of Sports Medicine as a personal trainer, and  is also a Level 1 CrossFit Coach.  He is currently enrolled in a Masters of Exercise Science Program.  Nick started Ignite Fitness to help people reach their full athletic potential and achieve things they didn’t think they could.  They offer small group training and personal training.

Ignite Fitness just celebrated their one year anniversary. They care deeply and invest in their members. This has been the key to their success. The business is thriving, and members are not only reaching their fitness goals, but also maintaining them. Ignite Fitness has been the catalyst for positive, life-impacting changes for their members.

Ignite Fitness Cares

When Ignite Fitness welcomes a member, they become part of the extended family. They provide support and work very closely with members. The staff and the members become important parts of each others lives — and not just as accountability partners. Many friendships have been started at Ignite Fitness. This includes the late Marc Frontier, a member who recently, in a tragic accident, left this world way too soon. True to his name, he left his mark at Ignite Fitness, and Nick, the staff, members, and friends have come together to remember Marc in a unique and meaningful way.

About Marc Frontier

Last year, Marc Frontier came to Ignite Fitness on the referral of another member. Alike in many ways, Nick and Marc became close friends.

“Marc had a strong work ethic, was a great competitor, but above all he had a vibrant, positive presence. He was very encouraging to his teammates at Ignite, was always willing to help, and never failed to have a smile on his face. He made an impact on everyone at Ignite,” said Nick Karavolos.

On September 21, 2015, Marc passed away at the age of 29, from injuries related to a fall from a tree. He had been trying to retrieve something that got caught in the tree.

Marc P. Frontier Memorial Fitness Battle

The team at Ignite Fitness wanted to commemorate Marc in a special way. Nick conceived the idea for a fitness battle, as an appropriate tribute to his client-turned-dear-friend.

“This is my way of remembering someone who brought so much positivity into my life, and the lives of his teammates at Ignite. Marc had an impact on so many people and I thought it was a great way to keep this going in his name.”

All of the proceeds from the event will be donated in Marc’s name to the Make-a-Wish Foundation, a charity that brings happiness to so many children, “just like Marc brought so much happiness to those around him.”

Ignite battle

The first annual Marc P. Frontier Memorial Fitness Battle will take place December 5 and 6, at Ignite Fitness in Elmhurst, IL. Cost is $75 per person.

“This 2-day event will be unlike any other fitness competition, you will be competing head to head, rep for rep against your competitors and only the fittest will survive.”

Tournament play will be a single elimination, head-to-head challenge. Winners will advance to the next round. The last competitor standing in each division will be crowned the fittest competitor. The competition will test all skills, so “competitors should be ready for anything.”

Volunteers, including many Ignite Fitness members, are lining up in droves to help organize and manage the competition. They feel like it’s the least they can do for the support and positivity Marc brought to their lives. I’m sure when these members joined Ignite Fitness, they never anticipated the level of impact this would have on their lives, physically and emotionally

Get involved

There’s still time to compete and volunteer for this cause, or make a donation directly to Make-a-Wish-Foundation. Ignite Fitness is more than just a workout facility. It’s a place where life changes, for the positive. They care, and give back.

Ignite Fitness is located at 263 N. York in Elmhurst, IL. 630.915.4027
