Stathis Poulakidas, MD Awarded for Excellence in Pediatric Care

Yet another award for the highly-regarded Stathis Poulakidas, M.D., F.A.C.S., Chair of Burn and Wound Services at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital in Chicago.

Meet Dr. Stathis Poulakidas

Dr. Stathis Poulakidas, M.D., F.A.C.S., attended Chicago Medical School. He completed his residency at Loyola University in Chicago, and his Fellowship at University of California, Davis. The prominent physician from the Chicago area is board certified in general surgery/surgical critical care. Dr. Poulakidas is a member of the American Board of Surgery and the American Burn Association, and has been published several time in prominent medical journals.

For the past 13 years, he has provided trauma and burn care to more than 100 children each year. He’s also conducted extensive research in the area, particularly pediatric burn care. Dr. Poulakidas has trained other medical professionals in trauma life support techniques and field burn treatment, and U.S. military medical personnel in adult and pediatric burn care preparing them for deployment overseas.

 

Multiple Awards

Dr. Poulakidas is the recipient of many awards for his work, including Patients’ Choice Award (2010-2012, 2014-2015); Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2010, 2012, 2014-2015); and On-Time Doctor Award (2014-2015). He is very highly regarded among his colleagues, as well as with patients.

 

Ron E. Lee, M.D. Pediatric Care Award

This month, Dr. Poulakidas received the Ron E. Lee, M.D. Pediatric Care Award – Clinical Excellence, by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), and the Illinois Emergency Medical Services for Children  (EMSC) program. The award, which is presented each year, honors the memory of Dr. Ron E. Lee, who passed away in 1998. He was the medical director for the Division of Emergency Medical Services and Highway Safety at IDPH, as well as the director of emergency medicine at Loyola University Medical Center. He also spearheaded the effort to establish the EMSC program in Illinois.

In a statement, IDPH Director Nirav D. Shah, M.D., J.D.  praised this year’s recipient.

“Dr. Poulakidas’ medical research, training programs, care for burn victims, and his work to raise awareness about burn prevention show his dedication to children’s health. I am honored to award Dr. Poulakidas the Ron W. Lee, M.D. Excellence in Pediatric Care Clinical Excellence Award.”
