Keep reading to learn about what’s coming in 2019.
Out with the old…
The last year was a challenging one for all media publications. Advertising has changed. The way people engage with content has changed. Along with these realities and based on your tremendous feedback, we’re going to do some things differently.
Our readership grew 25% in 2018! Thank you! Our readers come from all over the world, with 75% coming from the U.S. Nearly 50% of those U.S. readers are in the Midwest. Our mission has always been to highlight the innovative and exciting works of Greeks around the world, which includes the Windy City. Chicago is our home base, and to support our local community that has given us so much, and though we are a magazine and not a newspaper, we have always tried to provide some Chicago news as we can. Since you’ve requested it, in 2019, we’re going to give you more Chicago! We’ll be sharing more of this amazing community with the world. With that, we’re changing our tagline to read:
“The Best of Greek Chicago and Beyond”
Stay tuned for more on that.
Industry-wide data shows that people don’t want to read articles as much as they did in the past. They now prefer to watch videos, listen to interviews, etc. You’ve told us that we create too much content and you can’t keep up, and that you want video and podcasts. In September 2018, we created the Chicago Greek Report, a weekly video series with some quick bits of Chicago news and events. Since you all love it so much, we’ll continue this series in 2019! We’ll also produce some video interviews this year. We’re currently looking at other ways to present content.
You asked for merch, and we’ve got it! We’ve teamed up with our friends at Kantyli.com to create WindyCity Greek aprons, that are available now. Look for more merch to come this spring.
And now for perhaps the biggest change of all … We’re migrating to a brand-new format, which will not only provide more flexibility on content but also allows our small-but-mighty staff the ability to serve you better. In January and February, we will publish a few articles on the website, but beginning March 1, we’ll move to quarterly issues. You’ll be able to read and interact with them from our brand-new website (coming March 1)!
Here’s the new schedule:
- Spring Issue: Live March 1
- Pascha Special Issue: Live April 1
- Chicago Area GreekFest Guide: Live late May
- Summer Issue: Live June 1 – including Summer Reading Guide
- Fall Issue: Live September 15
- Winter Issue: Live December 1 – including a special Christmas supplement
There are so many awesome things to come this year. Stay tuned to learn more! We’re so excited about all the changes. Come along for an awesome year of celebrating the Best of Greek Chicago and Beyond!
