St. John Philoptochos Supports St. Nicholas National Shrine

The Philoptochos at St. John the Baptist Church in Des Plaines, IL recently presented a donation of $12,800 to go toward the construction of the St. Nicholas National Shrine, the only house of worship at Ground Zero in New York. The group solicited donations of their members, family and friends.

Actor Anthony Quinn, perhaps best known for his portrayal of Alexis Zorba in the legendary 1964 film, ZORBA THE GREEK, was also a prolific painter and sculptor. The National Hellenic Museum in Chicago is showcasing 80 of his works, as well as a replica of Quinn’s studio where he created his art until his 80s.
