National Poetry Month: Young Greek Poet from Pythagoras Children’s Academy
We love nurturing the next generation of writers. In honor of National Poetry Month, we went back to Chicago’s Greek Orthodox Parochial Schools to seek more aspiring young Greek poets. We held a contest, and each school submitted their top three poems. We selected our faves and will present them all month long.
Today, we feature a poem called ‘Karate’, by Paige Anadiotis, a 5th grader at Pythagoras Children’s Academy in Elmhurst, IL. Read on as she shares her love for the martial arts.
‘Karate’ by Young Greek Poet Paige Anadiotis
Karate karate I love you so,
that is the place that I should go
Karate is the place to be,
this is the place where I feel free,
By the time I got my very first belt,
Happiness is the feeling I felt
And now I am a purple belt
Aiah! Is the word you say
When You want to play,
Sparing is a type of karate
Where you can party!
It is a great sport to fight bad guys,
So have fun with it, hey that rhymes!
